Chairman of the Economic Development, Tourism, Housing, Planning, and Transit Committee, Brian J. Woltman, and Deputy Chair Lynn Archer offer the following:
WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the County Executive on behalf of the Department of Planning; and
WHEREAS, Section 21(14) of New York State Labor Law provides that the Commissioner of the New York State Department of Labor (“NYSDOL”) shall do “all things necessary for the operation of the New York state data center established in the department in cooperation with the United States bureau of the census,” including cooperation with other state entities in the dissemination of socio-economic information and data through the New York State Data Center (“NYSDC”); and
WHEREAS, the NYSDC operates as part of a nationwide effort to improve public access to census data and to ensure complete and accurate national, statewide, and county level information is provided to the public; and
WHEREAS, Ulster County recognizes the importance of access to and dissemination of the data provided by NYSDOL to decisions related to economic development, grant applications, overall understanding of the County’s demographic trends, and an accurate census count; and
WHEREAS, the NYSDOL wishes to retain the services of the Ulster County Planning Department to act as a census data affiliate, and the Ulster County Planning Department wishes to provide such services; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is authorized to execute a State Data Center Program Affiliate Agreement and any related amendments with the New York State Department of Labor, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Legislature or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney,
and move its adoption.
