A Legislator for over a decade, Hector Rodriguez has spent much of his adult working career in public service, public advocacy and policy making. Since the tender age of 19, Hector has worked at every level of government including Special Assistant on Economic Development and Intern at the White House Office of Legislative Affairs during the Clinton Administration, Personal Assistant to Senator Torricelli (D-NJ),; Community Outreach Planner for Scenic Hudson, Economic Development specialist for the City of Newburgh, Hudson Valley Representative for New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi, Government and Campaign consultant for numerous local and state candidates and consultant to Birchez Associates, a developer of senior affordable housing throughout the Hudson Valley.
Hector has previously served his local community on New Paltz Town Planning Board, the Town of Plattekill Planning Board, Library Board, Rotarian, and New York League of Conservation Voters. Hector is a member of the Hispanic Coalition of New York.
Hector has been an ardent supporter of affordable housing. “I grew up in Ulster County and I find it unfortunate that so many of us cannot find housing to own or rent. Whether you are in the market to buy a house or a renter, like myself, here in Ulster County, the end result is we are losing our older residents and young families.”
As a Legislator, Rodriguez has served as Chair of the Economic Development, Planning, Housing and Transit Committee, Environment Committee, and Government Reform Committee, and as the Minority leader. In his first month in office, Hector authorized the first update of the County-wide open space plan since 1971.
Rodriguez is a graduate of Syracuse University, where he earned a degree in Political Science and International Relations from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Service. Hector has served on several boards and committees including the New York League of Conservation Voters, Syracuse University Board of Trustees, Ulster County Community Action, Grace Smith House and other boards. He is currently the NYS Democratic Committeeman for the 103rd Assembly District.
Hector is a parishioner at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. He is a life long resident of southern Ulster County and currently lives in the Village of New Paltz.
