Jim Delaune moved to Ulster County in 1987, attracted by the natural beauty, rich culture, diversity and opportunities that Ulster County offers. At the time, he held the position of Executive Director of the City of Newburgh’s Economic and Community Development Office. During this period he developed many unique economic development programs that focused on job creation and strengthening the municipality’s tax base. Jim has both served on and chaired the Town of New Paltz’s Clean Water and Open Space Commission, in addition to sitting on the Village of New Paltz’s Revolving Loan Committee and the Orange County’s Agricultural Plan Implementation Committee.
After 20 years of public service, James retired and has spent the last 10 years as the executive director of the Orange County Land Trust. The Land Trust has become the voice of, and a catalyst for, voluntary conservation of land in the county. The Land Trust strives to protect the natural and agricultural heritage of the county, working with farmers and other landowners who wish to keep their land untouched by future development. He is committed to ensuring that Ulster County continues to move towards greater economic vitality and environmental sustainability.
He began his college education at Rider University and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts from The College of New Jersey.
An important aspect of his life is his family, his wife Sophie and daughter Shar. Legislator Delaune views his service to the constituents of the 17th District as both an honor and a privilege.
