Chair of the Legislature, Peter Criswell, offers the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive; and    

 

WHEREAS, the 2024-25 New York State Budget included $150 million in funding for the New York Statewide Investment in More Swimming (SWIMS); and

 

WHEREAS, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York announced the first round of funding is now available for the NY SWIMS program; and

 

WHEREAS, the NY SWIMS grant program can be used to fund capital investments, for the acquisition, development and planning of parks and recreational facilities to preserve, rehabilitate or restore lands, waters or structures for park, recreation or conservation purposes and for structural assessments and/or planning for such projects; and

 

WHEREAS, due to a prolonged loss of water resulting from unforeseen maintenance issues, the Ulster County pool located in the Town of New Paltz has been closed for the season; and

 

WHEREAS, the NYS SWIMS grant can be used to fund capital rehabilitation of the pool; and

 

WHEREAS, the state share will be a maximum of 80% of the total project costs and Ulster County will be required to provide at least 20% of the total project costs as match; and

 

 WHEREAS, The County desires to submit application to utilize funding from this program to support necessary capital improvements for the Ulster County Pool, located at 241 Libertyville Rd. New Paltz, New York; now, therefore, be it

 

 

 

RESOLVED, that the Commissioner of Public Works or designee, is hereby authorized to submit online applications to the New York State Dormitory Authority of State of New York for the New York Statewide Investment in More Swimming (SWIMS) for funding up to grant’s maximum award amount for rehabilitation of the Ulster County Pool, located in the Town of New Paltz; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that if awarded Ulster County will commit to budgeting the required 20% of the total project costs required as match; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that a copy of all grant applications submitted pursuant to the Resolution shall be filed with the Clerk of the Legislature prior to or immediately upon submission,

 

and moves its adoption.
