Chair of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Eve Walter, and Deputy Chair Gina Hansut offer the following:
WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office; and
WHEREAS, this resolution is requesting authorization to apply for the Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services FY 23 Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) Grant, opportunity number O-COPS-2023-171540; and
WHEREAS, the LEMHWA Grant funds improvement of the delivery of and access to mental health and wellness services for law enforcement officers through the implementation of peer support, training, family resources, suicide prevention, and other promising practices for wellness program; and
WHEREAS, the LEMHWA Grant can add funding in the maximum amount of $200,000.00 if awarded with a no cash match; and
WHEREAS, it is now necessary to apply for this grant by April 14, 2023, or risk losing this opportunity; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute the application for the Department of Justice COPS FY 2023 Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) Grant,
and move its adoption.
