Chairman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Abe Uchitelle, and Deputy Chair Gina Hansut offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Department of Probation; and

 

WHEREAS, the Probation Director has requested that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to execute a contract with the New York State Office of Victim Services to accept a grant for a Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Victim Assistance Program: Attorney Services Initiative; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Probation administers the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP), which aids victims and witnesses of crime; and

 

WHEREAS, the funding will provide continued holistic civil legal services to victims in areas of family offenses, custody, visitation, child support and victim related immigration matters; and

 

WHEREAS, the source of funds is 100% Federal (CFDA#16.575); and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Probation has been awarded a five (5) year Grant (OVS01-C10835GG-1080200,  10/1/2018 – 9/30/2023) totaling $1,363,193.00 subject to state funding from the New York State Office of Victim Services, with an award in the amount of $280,070.00 for the period beginning October 1, 2021 and ending September 30, 2022; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute a contract and any amendments thereto with the New York State Office of Victim Services to accept a grant for a Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Victim Assistance Program: Attorney Services initiative, as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature, or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney,

 

and moves its adoption.
