Chair Tracey A. Bartels offers the following:

 

WHEREAS, it is anticipated that on September 8, 2022, County Executive Patrick K. Ryan will resign from the position of County Executive, thereby creating a vacancy in the office; and

 

WHEREAS, on September 9, 2022, Johanna Contreras, the designee as established in County Executive Ryan’s Order of Succession, is anticipated to be sworn in as Acting County Executive pursuant to Charter § C-29(C); and

 

WHEREAS, the Acting County Executive shall serve in such capacity only until the vacancy is filled in accordance with Charter § C-29(D)(E) or (F); and

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Administrative Code § A3-8(C), a vacancy occurring in the office of the County Executive before the 20th day of September of any year shall be filled at the next general election; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ulster County Legislature determines that the vacancy may be filled by popular vote at the next general election, scheduled for November 8, 2022; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Ulster County Legislature hereby calls for the unexpired term of Patrick K. Ryan in the office of the Ulster County Executive be filled by popular vote at the November 2022 General Election; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature shall deliver a certified copy of this Resolution to the Ulster County Board of Elections in furtherance of the Board’s duty under Charter § C-29(D) to prepare ballots, voting machines and other matters so that such election may be duly held and conducted, and shall also deliver a certified copy of this resolution to the Ulster County Clerk and the New York State Board of Elections,

 

and move its adoption.
