Chairman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Abe Uchitelle, and Deputy Chair Gina Hansut offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the Ulster County Sheriff; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ulster County Sheriff is requesting authorization to apply for the Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance FY 22 Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program Grant; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office has previously received a grant from the Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance for the Grant-Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program (COSSAP), in the amount of $900,000.00, to provide financial and technical assistance to local government in effort to identify, respond to, treat, and support those impacted by illicit opioids, stimulants and other drugs of abuse; and

 

WHEREAS, the awarded funds were to be used over a 3-year term (2020-2022); and

 

WHEREAS, the approval to apply for this additional grant will provide the Sheriff’s Office an opportunity to extend the funding of the Oracle program (COSSAP) for an additional 3 years in the amount of $1,300,000.00; now, therefore be it;

 

RESOLVED, that the Ulster County Legislature hereby authorizes the application for the Department of Justice BJA FY 2022 Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program Grant, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature, or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney,

 

and moves its adoption.
