Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Eve Walter, and Deputy Chair Heidi Haynes offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Ulster County Sheriff and Ulster County Probation; and

 

WHEREAS, the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (“GIVE”) initiative is an expanded crime reduction program related to criminal activity pertaining to the use of drugs and gun violence, and will involve the Ulster County Sheriff’s office, the Ulster County Probation Department, and the Ulster County District Attorney; and

      

WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department have requested that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to enter into an agreement with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for the purpose of participating in a twelve-month joint county crime reduction program for the period beginning July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2022; and

 

WHEREAS, the GIVE initiative provides funding in the amount of $25,000.00 to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office and funding in the amount of $52,000.00 to Ulster County Probation; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute an agreement and any related amendments with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for the GIVE grant in the amount of $77,000.00, for the period beginning July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2022, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature, or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, if funding for this program is eliminated, the Commissioner of Finance shall, immediately upon discovery, send written notification to the Clerk of the Legislature, and the relevant Department Head shall attend the next regular meeting of the Ways and Means Committee to assist the Committee in review and evaluation for determination of the program's continuance,

 

and move its adoption.
