Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Eve Walter, and Deputy Chair Heidi Haynes offer the following: 

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the Ulster County Sheriff; and 

 

WHEREAS, this resolution is requesting authorization to apply for the Department of Homeland Security-FEMA-Port Security Grant to provide financial and technical assistance to state, local and private sector in effort to focus on transportation infrastructure security activities; and 

 

WHEREAS, the grant programs are part of a comprehensive set of measures authorized by Congress and implemented by the Administration to help strengthen the Nation’s critical infrastructure against risks associated with potential terrorist attacks; and

 

WHEREAS, the approval to apply for this grant will provide the Sheriff’s Office an opportunity to increase port-wide risk management and protect critical surface transportation infrastructure from acts of terrorism, major disaster, and other emergencies in the amount of up to $138,233.00, with a 75% reimbursement; and

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary to apply for this grant by May 14, 2021, or risk losing this opportunity; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute the application for the Department of Homeland Security-FEMA-Port Security Grant,

 

and move its adoption.
