Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Eve Walter, and Deputy Chair Heidi Haynes offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the Sheriff’s Office; and

         

WHEREAS, this resolution is requesting authorization to apply for the Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance Grant-Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program (COSSAP) in order to provide financial and technical assistance to local government in effort to identify, respond to, treat and support those impacted by illicit opioids, stimulants and other drugs of abuse. The total program funding is $156,000,000.00 with an award ceiling of $6,000,000.00; and

 

          WHEREAS, the ability to apply for this grant will provide the Sheriff’s Office with an opportunity to have a coordinated effort with other opioid response organizations. The funds will allow implementation of a County opioid response hotline, a systematic treatment and management referral and support system, increase availability of MAT within jail and County-wide, incorporate education and workforce training; and

 

WHEREAS, it is now necessary to apply for this grant by May 21, 2020, or risk losing this opportunity; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorizing the application for the Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance Grant-Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program (COSSAP),

 

and move its adoption.
