Chair of the Public Works and Capital Projects Committee, Kathy Nolan, and Deputy Chair Herbert Litts, III offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, Department of Public Works is eligible to receive funds up to $50,000.00 provided through New York Statewide Investment in More Swimming (SWIMS); and

           

WHEREAS, Ulster County aims to improve municipal swimming opportunities by implementing a county-wide lifeguard support program; and

 

WHEREAS, by improving recruitment and retention of lifeguards, providing training to support both county and municipal staffing, and hiring float lifeguards to be deployed to municipalities facing staffing shortages; and

 

WHEREAS, these initiatives will ensure that municipal facilities can operate without interruptions, expand programming for various populations, and improve the overall safety and enjoyment of public swimming facilities in Ulster County; and

 

WHEREAS, the Commissioner of Public Works has requested the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature to enter into an agreement with the New York State Department of State, Division of Local Government Services for a N.Y. Statewide Investment in More Swimming Assistance (SWIMS) grant in the amount of $50,000.00; now, therefore be it

 

            RESOLVED, Ulster County will commit to budgeting the required 20% of the grant with the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County for Training and Certification; and, be it further

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute an Agreement, and any amendments thereto, with New York State Department of State, One Commerce Plaza, 99 Washington Avenue, Suite 1115, Albany New York 12231 for a County wide Municipal Lifeguard Support  Initiative for a term of one (1) year commencing April 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025 as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature or as modified and approved by the Ulster County Attorney; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the 2025 Ulster County Operating Budget is hereby amended as follows:
