Chair of the Public Works, Capital Projects and Transportation Committee, Kathy Nolan, and Deputy Chair Herbert Litts, III offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 370 dated October 21, 2014, the Ulster County Legislature established a policy for the naming of county-owned assets; and

 

WHEREAS, part of County Road 1, partially located in the Town of Ulster, also known as Lucas Avenue, is a county-owned asset; and

 

WHEREAS, on March 21, 2024 the Town Board of the Town of Ulster unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the County of Ulster’s intention to dedicate the above mentioned road in honor of Vietnam War Veterans; and

 

WHEREAS, pursuant to the policy for naming of county-owned assets, a public hearing was held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 7:15 PM in the Legislative Chambers, Ulster County Office Building, 6th Floor, 244 Fair Street, Kingston, New York, to ensure public input on the matter was considered; and

 

WHEREAS, as the largest population of veterans in the County, Vietnam War Veterans, deserve to be honored and remembered for the sacrifices made for the nation; and

 

WHEREAS, historically Vietnam War Veterans have been underappreciated and overlooked and this is an opportunity to validate and honor the County Residents who served in combat during the Vietnam War; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that County Road Number 1, also known as Lucas Avenue, partially located in the Town of Ulster, shall be dedicated as “Ulster County Vietnam War Veterans Memorial Highway,”

 

and move its adoption.
