Background -+
Limina Grace Harmon tries to live by seeking justice, not just us. She has lived in the Village of New Paltz for six years, during which time she has become deeply involved in the life of the community. In her time here she has served on the Racial Equity Advisory Committee of the New Paltz Board of Education, on then Governor Cuomo’s E.O. 203 Reimaging and Reinventing Police Committee, the Board of Sustainable Hudson Valley, and the Ulster County Human Rights Commission, among others.
A Methodist clergy person, Limina Grace serves as the pastor of both New Paltz UMC and Modena Memorial UMC. She believes strongly in the need for public ethicists. She strives always to present a distinction between insisting that others adhere to a dogmatic way of life and applying a solid and contextual moral framework to the most pressing issues of our time. Her calling to ministry has graced her with the opportunity to walk with people through some of the most challenging times in their lives. This has offered her unique insight into broken social systems, places of hidden need, and the profound ways in which our policy choices have direct impact on one another’s lives.
Prior to entering ministry and moving to New Paltz, Limina Grace worked for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a media relations officer and legislative research analyst, over her time there serving 36 members of the House as well as serving as Press Secretary for the Legislative Black Caucus. She was also the speech writer for former Philadelphia Mayor John Street. At the national office of the American Civil Liberties Union Limina Grace had the opportunity to work on: Presidential Abuse of Power related to 9/11; human rights abuses and rampant racism after Hurricane Katrina; U.S. drug law policy; and religious freedom and the separation of church and state, among other critical issues.
Limina Grace is the mother of two incredible daughters Bentley and Kalinda, both in high school. She has the love and support of her fiancé, Art Brooks. They reside happily with two overly enthusiastic dogs. When not engaged in work for the church or the community they enjoy travel, camping, sci-fi and fantasy everything, and making amazing dinners together.
