Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Lynn Eckert, and Deputy Chair Kenneth Ronk, Jr. offer the following:

 

          WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office; and

                                                     

          WHEREAS, this resolution is requesting authorization to apply for a Department of Homeland Security Port Security Grant (the “Grant”) to cover up to 75% reimbursement for the purchase of a new boat needed for the Sheriff’s Office Navigation Division from the Port Security Grant Program CFDA Number 97.056; and

 

          WHEREAS, the remaining expense will be reimbursed up to 50% by the Navigation grant, which the Sheriff’s Office requests annually, leaving the County to cover up to $50,000.00 of the $425,000.00 purchase; and

 

          WHEREAS, the approval to apply for the Grant will provide the Sheriff with an opportunity to alleviate most of the cost in replacing a boat for the Navigation division; and

 

          WHEREAS, it is now necessary to apply for the Grant by May 29, 2019, or risk losing this funding opportunity; now, therefore be it;

 

           RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute the Grant application and any related amendments, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney, in consultation with Counsel to the County Legislature, Chair of the County Legislature, and the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee,

 

and move its adoption.
