Legislator Kathy Nolan and Legislators Archer, Bartels, Collins, Delaune,

Donaldson, Eckert, Fabiano, Gerentine, Greene, Haynes, Heppner, Litts, Lopez,

Maio, James Maloney, Joseph Maloney, Petit, Roberts, Rodriguez, Ronk, Wawro,

and Woltman offer the following:

WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 370 dated October 21, 2014, the

Ulster County Legislature established a policy for the naming of county-owned

assets; and

WHEREAS, the bridge that spans the Esopus Creek on CR 40 located in the

Town of Shandaken is a county-owned asset; and

WHEREAS, on August 6, 2018, the Town Board of the Town of Shandaken

unanimously adopted a resolution requesting that the County of Ulster name the

above mentioned bridge after former Ulster County Sheriff Michael LaPaglia; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to the policy naming county-owned assets, a public

hearing was held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at 6:00 PM in the Legislative

Chambers, Ulster County Office Building, 6th Floor, 244 Fair Street, Kingston, New

York, to insure public input on the matter was considered; and

WHEREAS, Michael LaPaglia served much of his almost 20 year career with

the NYPD commuting back and forth from the city to his home in Ulster County; and

WHEREAS, in 1976, Mr. LaPaglia joined the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office

in the Special Investigation Division where he worked his way up the ranks

becoming Lieutenant then Captain; and

WHEREAS, from 1981 – 1986 while living in Shandaken, Michael LaPaglia

WHEREAS, the Ulster County Legislature recognizes the late Michael

LaPaglia as a distinguished citizen who has made significant contributions to the

Town of Shandaken and Ulster County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, County Bridge Number 191, also known as the Bridge Street

Bridge, spanning the Esopus Creek on CR 40 located in the Hamlet of Phoenicia,

Town of Shandaken shall be dedicated to and hereby proclaimed the “Michael

LaPaglia Bridge;”

and move its adoption.
