Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Mary Beth

Maio, and Deputy Chair Julius Collins offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, a hazard analysis conducted as part of updating the Ulster

County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan has identified hazardous

materials in transit and hazardous materials at fixed sites as the top two hazards

facing Ulster County; and

WHEREAS, these incidents have the potential for causing widespread injury

or death to our citizens and the potential for devastating environmental damage; and

WHEREAS, the City of Kingston Fire Department operates a HazardousMaterials Response Team with trained personnel and specialized equipment that has

been responding to Haz-Mat incidents under contract with Ulster County since 1997,

and has developed an excellent working relationship with local volunteer fire

departments operating at these incidents; and

WHEREAS, the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee has

requested that the Chairman of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to enter

into a (5) year agreement with the City of Kingston, beginning August 19, 2017 to

extend these services for $75,000.00 ($15,000.00 annually for a period of five years);

and

RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby

authorized to execute a five (5) year agreement with the City of Kingston, beginning

August 19, 2017 to extend hazardous materials response services for $75,000.00

($15,000.00 annually for a period of five years),

and moves its adoption.
