Chairman Kenneth J. Ronk, Jr. offers the following:

WHEREAS, many Ulster County and New York State elected officials have

advocated for passage of State legislation which would grant the Ulster County

Sheriff the authority to act as an additional pistol permit licensing officer in Ulster

County; and

 

WHEREAS, the amount of time it takes to properly review and process

licenses creates an extensive wait time for Ulster County residents that can be

alleviated with commonsense legislation of this nature; and

WHEREAS, such legislation has been introduced as Senate Bill No. S01032

and Assembly Bill No. A01267 so that a formal Home Rule Request is now

appropriate; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the County Executive and the Clerk of the Ulster County

Legislature be authorized to execute and submit a Home Rule Request (Request by a

Local Government for Enactment of a Special Law), pursuant to Article IX of the

Constitution, requesting the enactment of Senate Bill No. S01032 and Assembly Bill

No. A01267 entitled “Authorizes the Ulster county sheriff to serve as an additional

firearms licensing officer”,

and move its adoption.
