Chairman of the Economic Development, Tourism, Housing, Planning, and Transit

Committee, Thomas J. Briggs, and Deputy Chairman James F. Maloney offer the

following:

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the County Executive on

behalf of the Department of Planning; and

WHEREAS, New York Labor Law §21(14) empowers the New York State

Department of Labor (NYSDOL) to do all things necessary for the operation of the

New York State Data Center (the “Center”) in cooperation with the United States

Bureau of the Census (the "Census Bureau") including cooperation with other State

agencies, universities, regional organizations, boards, commissions and other entities

in the dissemination of socio-economic information and data through the Center, in

order to provide technical assistance to other State agencies, universities, regional

organizations, boards, commissions and other entities as necessary; and

WHEREAS, the Center operates as part of a nationwide effort to improve

public access to census data and to ensure complete and accurate national, state, and

county level information is provided to the public; and

WHEREAS, the NYSDOL wishes to retain the services of the Ulster County

Planning Department to act as a Census Designated Affiliate under this program and

the Ulster County Planning Department wishes to perform said services; and

WHEREAS, Ulster County recognizes the importance of access and

dissemination of data provided by NYSDOL to decisions related to economic

development, grant applications, overall understanding of the County’s demographic

trends, and an accurate census count; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Ulster County Legislature is authorized

to execute contracts and agreements, and any amendments thereto, with the New

York State Department of Labor to provide for the Ulster County Planning

Department to act as a Census Designated Affiliate under the NYSDOL guidelines,

 

and move its adoption.
