Chairman of the Economic Development, Tourism, Housing, Planning, and Transit

Committee, Thomas J. Briggs, and Deputy Chairman James F. Maloney and

Legislator Hector Rodriguez offer the following:

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the County Executive on

behalf of the Department of Public Transportation; and

WHEREAS, Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) currently provides public

transit service that connects Ulster and Dutchess Counties, including service to the

MetroNorth Train Station (the LINK Route); and

WHEREAS, the Director of Public Transportation has recently been notified

that the New York State Department of Transportation will reimburse Ulster County

for eligible costs associated with the expansion of this route; and

WHEREAS, in order to provide this expanded service it is necessary for

UCAT to hire two (2) full-time benefitted bus drivers (salary - $35,705.00 and

associated costs) to be paid for through State Aid beginning in the fourth quarter of

2015; and

WHEREAS, the Director of UCAT requests the Chairman of the Ulster

County Legislature be authorized to expand the service on the 9W corridor to

Poughkeepsie beginning October 1, 2015; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby

authorized to expand the LINK service and accept reimbursement from the New

York State Department of Transportation for the operation of the expanded LINK

service in an amount not to exceed $340,000, for the term January 1, 2015 through

December 31, 2015, in form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature

or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the 2015 Ulster County Budget is hereby amended as

follows:
