Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, John Gavaris, and Deputy Chair Kevin A. Roberts offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Department of Information Services; and

 

 WHEREAS, Ulster County recognizes the importance of establishing clear guidelines for the acceptable use of information technology resources to ensure the security, integrity, and effective use of such resources; and

 

WHEREAS, the appropriate use of technology is essential to the operational efficiency and success of Ulster County; and

 

WHEREAS, Ulster County aims to protect its digital infrastructure from unauthorized access, data breaches, and other cybersecurity threats; and

 

WHEREAS, it is essential to promote responsible and ethical use of technology among all employees, contractors, and users of the Ulster County's information technology resources; and

 

WHEREAS, the updated Acceptable Use of Technology Policy follows the policy and guidelines issued by the New York State Office of Information Technology (NYSOITS) and is based on set standards that define best practices for information technology use; and

 

WHEREAS, in order to remain in compliance with mandates of Federal, Sate and Local Law, if any provision of this policy is changed or becomes in conflict with Federal, State, or Local Law, such Law will preempt the policy, and revision(s) will be made accordingly; and

 

WHEREAS, employees will be provided with notice that revisions have been made to the Acceptable Use Policy, and will be made aware of the location of the revised policy; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, the Ulster County Legislature hereby adopts the Acceptable Use of Technology Policy, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Legislature; and, be it further

 

 

 

RESOLVED, that the Information Technology Security Policy adopted pursuant to resolution 248 of 1999 is hereby revoked and replaced with the Ulster County Information Services Acceptable Use of Technology Policy,

 

and moves its adoption.
