Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Gina Hansut, and Deputy Chair Chris Hewitt offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the District Attorney; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ulster County Office of the District Attorney has been awarded funding for the 2024–2027 Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) - Local Law Enforcement Grants for the Prosecution of Cybercrimes (O-OVW-2024-171924) in the amount of $500,000.00; and

 

WHEREAS, the Office of the District Attorney will use OVW grant funds to create a multidisciplinary team to provide prevention education, victim advocacy, increased accessibility to tools to prosecute perpetrators and protect victims against intimate partner violence-related cybercrimes, and direct support services to victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking in rural areas including the Village of Ellenville within Ulster County; and

 

WHEREAS, the funding will be used for software systems that will improve and enhance prosecution of intimate partner-violence related cybercrimes; and

 

WHEREAS, the remainder of the funding not utilized by the District Attorney’s Office will be used to fund work performed in connection with the grant through an interagency Memorandum of Understanding that includes Ulster County Probation Department’s Crime Victim’s Assistance Program, Village of Ellenville Police Department, Family of Woodstock, and Ulster County Sheriff’s Office; and

 

WHEREAS, there is no County share required for this grant thereby resulting in it being budget neutral for 2025; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute an Agreement with the United States Department of Justice accept federal funds in the amount of $500,000.00 for use by the Office of the Ulster County District Attorney for the grant term; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the 2025 Ulster County Budget is amended as follows to include the anticipated revenue and expenses in connection to this grant funding:
