Referred to: The Economic Development, Planning, Education, Employment, Arts and Agriculture Committee (Chairwoman Sperry and Legislators Clinton, Corcoran, Hewitt, Litts, Stewart and Walls), and The Ways and Means Committee (Chairman Gavaris and Legislators Collins, Hansut, Kovacs, Nolan, and Roberts)
Chairwoman of the Economic Development, Planning, Education, Employment, Arts and Agriculture Committee, Megan Sperry, and Deputy Chair Herbert Litts, III offer the following:
WHEREAS, this Resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Ulster County Office of Employment and Training; and
WHEREAS, the County, by and through its Department of Employment and Training, desires to enter into an agreement to provide mentoring and program services to Brighter Futures Initiative participants; and
WHEREAS, Ellenville Central School District/Ellenville High School has been providing mentoring services to Brighter Futures participants for the past three years; and
WHEREAS, the County has agreed to engage Ellenville Central School District/Ellenville High School, and Ellenville Central School District/Ellenville High School has agreed to contract with the County, to provide mentoring and program services to Brighter Futures Initiative participants in the Ellenville School District; and
WHEREAS, the Ellenville Central School District/Ellenville High School agrees to perform the Services beginning January 1, 2024, and ending December 31, 2024; and the County may extend the Term of this Agreement at its sole discretion for up to four (4) additional [one (1) year] periods; and
WHEREAS, a not-to-exceed amount of twenty-one thousand nine hundred nineteen dollars and 00/100 ($21,919.00) dollars has been established for the Services to be rendered by the Ellenville Central School District/Ellenville High School; and
WHEREAS, the Ulster County’s Brighter Futures Initiative (BFI) helps young people from low-income households gain valuable leadership and work experience during the school year; and
WHEREAS, the program also includes opportunities for mental health support, connections to community mentors, case management, educational outings and academic supports; and
WHEREAS, the Ulster County’s Brighter Future Initiative (BFI) helps young people from low-income households gain valuable work experience during the year and a significant wage; and
WHEREAS, 100% of the BFI youth’s wages are paid by United Way through a contract with the County using private and County funds for paid work experience internship; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to enter into an intermunicipal contract with the Ellenville Central School District for the Ulster County Office of Employment and Training’s Brighter Futures Initiative in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney,
and moves its adoption.
