Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Gina Hansut, and Deputy Chair Chris Hewitt offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the District Attorney; and

 

WHEREAS, the Ulster County Office of the District Attorney has notified Ulster County that funding for the 2024 – 2027 Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) - Local Law Enforcement Grants for the Prosecution of Cybercrimes (O-OVW-2024-171924) is available in the amount not to exceed $500,000.00; and

 

WHEREAS, if awarded, the Office of the District Attorney will use OVW grant funds to create a multidisciplinary team to provide prevention education, victim advocacy, increased accessibility to tools to prosecute and protect victims against cybercrimes, and direct support services to victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking in rural areas of Ulster County as defined by the 2020 United States Census Tract guidelines; and

 

WHEREAS, the Office of the District Attorney has drafted a Memorandum of Understanding with multiple agencies, including but not limited to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Ellenville Police Department, Ulster County Probation Department Crime Victims Assistance Program, Family of Woodstock, the National Network for Safe Communities to implement the aforementioned services; and

 

WHEREAS, the District Attorney requests the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to execute the assurance that the OVW Local Law Enforcement Grants for the Prosecution of Cybercrimes has gone through the Ulster County Legislative Resolution Process, which allows for public comment as required by the grant guidelines and regulations, and any amendments thereto; now, therefore be it

 

 

 

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute the required assurance for the Office of Ulster County District Attorney’s application to the Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) - Local Law Enforcement Grants for the Prosecution of Cybercrimes, for the term beginning October 1, 2024 and ending September 30, 2027, in the form filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney,          

 

and moves its adoption.
