Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Gina Hansut, and Deputy Chair Chris Hewitt offer the following:

 

WHEREAS,thisResolutionhasbeensubmitted at the request of theCountyExecutiveon behalf of the Department of Emergency Communications / Emergency Management; and

 

WHEREAS, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grant Program provides funding to support projects aimed at reducing injury and preventing death among high-risk populations and improving firefighter safety; and

 

WHEREAS, funding from this grant would enable the Department of Emergency Communications/ Emergency Management to implement the Ulster County Fire Safety Enhancement Initiative, a comprehensive program which includes the procurement of a fire safety education trailer to deliver mobile public education throughout Ulster County, the installation of a firefighter decontamination station to improve compliance with NFPA standards and reduce occupational health risks, and the purchase of updated personal protective equipment (PPE) for the Fire Investigation Unit to support safe operations during investigations; and

 

WHEREAS, Resolution 446 of 2024 requires Legislative approval of all grant applications with county matching funds prior to their submission; and

 

          WHEREAS, the total project cost of $386,444.00 will be composed of $367,122.00 of Federal dollars (95%) and $19,322.00 of County matching funds (5%); now, therefore, be it

 

           RESOLVED, that the Ulster County Legislature hereby supports the grant application to the FEMA FP&S Grant; and, be it further

 

 

 

 

 

RESOLVED, that the Budget Director or designee is hereby authorized to submit online applications through the New York State Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) for the above grant programs for up to each respective grant category’s maximum award amounts; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is authorized to sign an agreement, and any amendments thereto, in furtherance of the FEMA FP&S Grant program,

 

and moves its adoption.
