Chairman of the Laws and Rules, Governmental Services Committee, Richard A.

Parete, Deputy Chairman Kevin A. Roberts, and Legislators Allen, Archer, Bartels,

Briggs, Donaldson, Greene, Gregorius, Loughran, John Parete, Provenzano,

Rodriquez, and Wishnick offer the following:

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the County Executive on

behalf of the Department of Public Works, Buildings and Grounds Division; and

 WHEREAS, the Social Security Administration has closed its Lake Katrine

office, which was the only Social Security office in Ulster County; and

 WHEREAS, approximately 18,000 Ulster County residents visited that office

last year; and

 WHEREAS, Ulster County residents continue to have the need to be able to

conduct transactions with the Social Security Administration in a face to face

manner; and

 WHEREAS, the County Executive and the Ulster County Legislature desire to

continue Ulster County residents’ access to a local Social Security office; and

 WHEREAS, section 72-h of New York State General Municipal Law permits

a county to lease real property, with or without consideration, to the United States of

America, and any agency or department thereof; and

 WHEREAS, the County will not charge the Social Security Administration

any rent or fees in exchange for providing the office space; now, therefore, be it

 RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby

authorized to execute an agreement, and any amendments thereto, with the Social

Security Administration, or other designated federal entity, for the use of office space

at the Ulster County Office for the Aging, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the

Ulster County Legislature, or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney,

and move its adoption.
