Referred to: The Health, Human Services and Human Rights Committee (Chairman Uchitelle and Legislators Collins, Corcoran, Harmon, Kitchen, Lopez, and McCollough), and The Ways and Means Committee (Chairman Gavaris and Legislators Collins, Hansut, Kovacs, Nolan, Roberts, and Uchitelle)
Chairman of the Health, Human Services and Housing Committee, Abe Uchitelle, and Deputy Chair Craig V. Lopez offer the following:
WHEREAS, this Resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Department of Health (DOH); and
WHEREAS, the Medical Examiner’s Office is open 24/7 and requires constant staff coverage; and
WHEREAS, the Medical Examiner’s Office currently has positions in the 2025 Adopted Budget for (1) part-time Medical Examiner, (1) part-time Deputy Medical Examiner and (2) full-time Deputy Medical Examiners (Medicolegal Investigation), and less than part-time, non-benefited pay of $20,660.00; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Health cites that due to an increase in the average caseload there is a need to establish an additional full-time Deputy Medical Examiner (Medicolegal Investigation); and
WHEREAS, with increased staffing in Medicolegal Investigation, the part-timeMedical Examiner’s role would reduce to less than half time; and
WHEREAS, the incumbent part-time Medical Examiner is currently working ten (10) hours per pay period; and
WHEREAS, this staffing ensures sufficient coverage of the office, in-line with the needs of the county; and
WHEREAS, in order to reflect this, an amendment of the 2025 Ulster County Budget is necessary; now, therefore be it
