Legislator Eric Stewart offers the following:
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 331 of 2023 approved the 2023-2024 Ulster County Community College Budget, as filed with the Clerk of the Legislature, in the amount of $29,251,881 providing for a contribution by Ulster County in the amount of $6,900,863 with; and
WHEREAS, the approved Budget included a full-time tuition increase of $100 per semester, and a $20 increase per part-time credit, generating an additional $267,346 in tuition revenue; and
WHEREAS, many the residents of Ulster County continue facing economic hardships from the cost of increased inflation and the continued effects of the COVID-19 pandemic; and
WHEREAS, members of the public have subsequently communicated with the Legislative body to express hardship with the increased cost of tuition; and
WHEREAS, the Ulster County Legislature deems it necessary and appropriate to offset the increase in tuition for the 2023-2024 college fiscal year to provide a greater support to families, to provide for a greater timespan before the increase sets in, and to offset the hardship triggered by recent inflationary pressures; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Ulster County Legislature hereby approves an additional contribution to the Ulster County Community College by Ulster County in the amount of $267,346.00; and, be it further
RESOLVED, that the 2023 Ulster County Operating Budget is hereby amended as follows:
