Chairman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Abe Uchitelle, and Deputy Chair Gina Hansut offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the District Attorney, and

 

WHEREAS, the Ulster County District Attorney has been notified that he has been awarded funding through the Gun Violence Grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services in the amount of $50,000.00, for the purpose of funding community events meant to heal the relationship between law enforcement and the community, to create a program of trained interrupters who identify and mediate potential conflicts in the community, and to support the development of AVERT which is a new multi-agency unit focused on preventing violent crimes in Ulster County, the term of which expires March 31, 2022; and

 

WHEREAS, the State of New York has now appropriated funds in the amount of $50,000.00, for the period April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022; and

 

WHEREAS, the District Attorney is requesting that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to execute an agreement, and any amendments thereto, in the amount of $50,000.00 with the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services for the Gun Violence Grant; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute an agreement, and any amendments thereto, in the amount of $50,000.00 for the Gun Violence Grant with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Legislature, or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that the 2022 Ulster County Budget is hereby amended as follows:
