Chairman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Abe Uchitelle, and Deputy Chair Gina Hansut offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Ulster County Sheriff, Ulster County District Attorney and Ulster County Probation; and

 

WHEREAS, the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (“GIVE”) initiative is an expanded crime reduction program related to criminal activity pertaining to the use of drugs and gun violence, and will involve the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department, Ulster County District Attorney and the Ulster County Probation Department; and

 

WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office (Contract # GV22-1067-D00), Ulster County District Attorney (Contract #C484910) and Ulster County Probation Department (Contract #C484912) have requested that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to enter into an agreement with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice for the purpose of participating in a twelve-month joint county crime reduction program, from July 1, 2022 thru June 30, 2023, designated as the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (“GIVE”) Initiative; and

 

WHEREAS, the GIVE initiative provides funding in the following amount of $25,295.00 DCJS#GV2248491 to the Sheriff’s Department, $80,525.00 DCJS#GV22484910 to the District Attorney’s Office and $52,000.00 DCJS #GV22484912 to the Probation Department; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute all contracts, and any related amendments thereto, with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for the purpose of Ulster County's participation in the GIVE initiative grant in the amount of $157,820.00, for the period from July 1, 2022 and ending June 30, 2023, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature, or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney; and, be it further

 

 

 

 

 

 

RESOLVED, that if funding for this program is eliminated, the Commissioner of Finance shall, immediately upon discovery, send written notification to the Clerk of the Legislature, and the relevant Department Head shall attend the next regular meeting of the Ways and Means Committee to assist the Committee in review and evaluation for determination of the program’s continuance,

 

and move its adoption.
