Chairman of the Legislative Programs, Education and Community Services Committee, James Delaune, and Deputy Chair Thomas Corcoran, offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the County Executive on behalf of the Ulster County Community College; and

 

WHEREAS, due to the severe impacts resulting from the COVID-19 public health emergency, and the resulting fiscal crisis, the Ulster County Community College is facing the potential loss of State Aid and tuition revenue for the 2020-21 Fiscal Year; and strives to achieve a reduction in expenditures; and    

 

WHEREAS, the SUNY Ulster Board of Trustees has approved Resolution Number 20-5-48 to extend a voluntary opportunity of a retirement incentive to full time faculty; and

 

          WHEREAS, such incentive will be offered to employees who are retirement eligible on or before August 31, 2020; and

 

WHEREAS, such retirement incentive offers a 10% payment of such professional staff member’s base salary to be paid as a lump sum; and

 

WHEREAS, in order to receive such incentive, eligible faculty members shall provide notice of irrevocable intent to retire by noon on June 30, 2020, with a retirement date effective no later than August 31, 2020; and

 

WHEREAS, such incentive will result in personnel savings to the College by holding the retiree’s position vacant for the 2020-21 Academic Year, or by backfilling such position with an entry level base salary; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that in light of the uncertainty resulting from the COVID-19 public health emergency, the President of SUNY Ulster shall have the discretion to offer such retirement incentive to eligible employees,

 

and move its adoption.
