Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Lynn Eckert, and Deputy Chair Kenneth Ronk, Jr. offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the Ulster County District Attorney; and

 

            WHEREAS, the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (“GIVE”) initiative is an expanded crime reduction program related to criminal activity pertaining to the use of drugs and gang violence, and will involve the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, the Ulster County Probation Department, and the Ulster County District Attorney; and

 

            WHEREAS, the District Attorney has requested that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to enter into an agreement with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for the purpose of participating in a twelve-month joint county crime reduction program, for the period beginning July 1, 2019 and ending June 30, 2020; and

           

            WHEREAS, the GIVE initiative provides funding in the amount of $80,475.00 to the District Attorney; now, therefore, be it

 

            RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute an agreement and any related amendments with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services for a GIVE grant in the amount of $80,475.00, for the period beginning July 1, 2019 and ending June 30, 2020, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney; and be it further

 

            RESOLVED, if funding for this program is eliminated, the program will be eliminated as well,

 

and move its adoption.
