Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Lynn Eckert, and Deputy Chair Kenneth Ronk, Jr. offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the Acting County Executive on behalf of the Office of the Public Defender; and

 

WHEREAS, the Public Defender has requested that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to execute New York State Contract #CSTWIDEHH48 (the “Agreement”) and any related amendments, with the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services for the purpose of Ulster County’s participation in the New York State distribution of a portion of Indigent Legal Services funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the purpose of the Indigent Legal Services Fund is to improve the quality of mandated indigent legal representation and to reduce excessive caseloads in indigent legal service provider programs; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute the Agreement, and any related amendments, with the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services for the purpose of Ulster County’s participation in the distribution of Indigent Legal Services funds, for the period beginning April 1, 2018 and ending March 31, 2023, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature, or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney, in consultation with Counsel to the County Legislature, Chair of the County Legislature, and the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee,

 

and move its adoption.
