Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, Richard A. Gerentine, and Deputy

Chairman Thomas J. Briggs offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, the County’s burden for state mandated programs and services

has risen in recent years and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future; and

WHEREAS, strict austerity measures undertaken in operations of the county

government have substantially mitigated but not eliminated the financial burden of

mandates on Ulster County; and

WHEREAS, the additional sales tax rate of one percent as authorized by

Chapter 200 of the Laws of 2002 and as subsequently amended, will expire on

November 30, 2017; and

WHEREAS, the Ulster County Legislature wishes to ease the burden on the

County property taxpayer by continuing the additional sales tax rate of one percent,

as authorized by Chapter 200 of the Laws of 2002 as subsequently amended, for at

least the twenty-four month period commencing December 1, 2017; now, therefore,

be it

RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby

authorized to request the New York State Legislature to commence the process of

extending the Ulster County additional sales tax rate of one percent, as authorized by

Chapter 200 of the Laws of 2002 as subsequently amended, for at least the twentyfour month period commencing December 1, 2017; and, be it further

RESOLVED, that these intentions be transmitted to New York State Senators

George A. Amedore, John J. Bonacic, William J. Larkin, Jr. and James Seward, New

York State Assemblymembers Kevin A. Cahill, Brian D. Miller, Peter Lopez and

Frank K. Skartados,

and move its adoption.
