Thomas J. Briggs, better known as “TJ”, is a familiar face around Ellenville and Wawarsing. He enjoys living in the Village of Ellenville where he and his beautiful wife, Deborah, raised one son, Justin.

TJ was born and raised in Ellenville. He is the son of Thomas and Libby Briggs and a graduate of Ellenville High School. TJ went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree from SUNY Cortland.

TJ and his family are very active in local community organizations. TJ is a 40 year member and current President of Ellenville First Aid and Rescue. He is a member of the Noon Day Club, an event coordinator for the New York State Special Olympics and an avid supporter of the Shadowland Theater.

TJ recently retired as a Senior Counselor from the New York State Department of Corrections where he worked for 32 years. TJ was a Village of Ellenville Trustee from 1993 to 1997 and the Mayor of Ellenville from 1998 to 2001.

TJ was first elected as a County Legislator in 2008. He is a well-respected and trusted advisor to his fellow legislators and has a major role in the leadership of the County Legislature. He currently serves as a legislative liaison to several other community organizations.
