Legislator Peter Loughran is the Legislative Director for Senator George Latimer in the New York State Senate. Previously, Pete worked for the New York State Assembly, as a teacher for Kingston City Schools, and for IBM as a manufacturing specialist. These professional experiences have helped Pete to develop the vast knowledge base from which he has drawn over the last 20 years as an Ulster County Legislator. Representing the City of Kingston, has been a focal point for Pete as he works tiringly for tax breaks and mandate relief to benefit City residents. Pete is proud to be part of the Legislative body which removed the Safety Net burden from the City of Kingston residents.
Pete has served for many years on the New York State Association of Counties Intergovernmental Affairs & General Government Standing Committee and as it’s Vice-Chair for the past two years. In this role, Pete works with Counties across New York State to address the State’s mandate on local taxpayers of hundreds of millions of dollars annually in state program costs requiring locally raised revenues; which are, under permanent law, a state responsibility.
Pete began his education into community service during his coursework at SUNY New Paltz for both a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Communications and a Master of Science for Teachers in Childhood Education. Pete has been a frequent voice on Kingston Community Radio on WGHQ/920 AM.
When not working on behalf of Ulster County residents, Pete enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He comes from a long line of civil servants, starting with Fair Street Assemblyman Dr. Robert Loughran, a veteran of the Civil War, of whom the City’s Loughran Park is named in his honor.
