“There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs.” – Zig Ziglar.
“Taking the elevator would make it fast and quick, but that’s not what it’s about. It’s about taking each stair one by one, working as a team, listening to others and representing the people who’ve made this a great community.” – Mary Beth Maio
Stairs is what Legislator Mary Beth Maio has been taking since joining the County Legislator in 2010. Mary Beth represents the eastern part of the Town of Lloyd and a small chunk of northern Marlborough. She serves on the Ulster County Trails Advisory Committee and has been instrumental in re-writing the County’s Personnel manual with the County Executive’s office. She was an active member of the County task force that came up with recommendations about how the County should deal with the expensive health care facility. As the Majority Whip, and now Majority Leader, Mary Beth knows first-hand the work it takes to bring people together and make decisions for the betterment of all Ulster County residents.
With twenty-five years in the banking industry, Mary Beth is currently the Vice President at Wallkill Valley Federal Savings & Loan in Milton. Mary Beth was hired to open Wallkill Valley’s first branch. After three years, the Milton branch has consistently grown in its deposits and loans. She has led the branch to become a big part of the Highland, Milton, and Marlborough communities. She leans on her experience as a banker to help during the long County budget negotiations. She is also a member of Meet Me In Marlborough, Southern Ulster Chamber of Commerce, and the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce.
Being part of an active community is what spurred Mary Beth into politics. Her desire to work with a great team of local leaders and community volunteers has been a driving force to ensure better County policies for the people of her communities.
