Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Eve Walter, and Deputy Chair Heidi Haynes offer the following:

 

            WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the Sheriff’s Office; and

           

WHEREAS, the Ulster County Sheriff is requesting authorization to apply for the Department of Health and Human Services Administration For Child and Families (OFA) Grant-Fatherhood-Family-focused, Interconnected, Resilient, and Essential (Fatherhood FIRE) to provide financial and technical assistance to local government in an effort to identify fathers 18 years and older that have been incarcerated and are returning or have returned to their families and communities following incarceration, and to actively promote responsible fatherhood; and

 

WHEREAS, total program funding is anticipated to be between $500,000.00 and $1,500,000.00; and

 

            WHEREAS, this grant will provide the Sheriff’s Office an opportunity for coordinated effort with incarcerated fathers, allowing implementation of a program within the Ulster County Jail which will educate and create activities to promote responsible fatherhood once released from custody; and

 

            WHEREAS, it is necessary to apply for this grant by July 1, 2020, or risk losing the opportunity; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute the application for the Department of Health and Human Services Administration For Child and Families (OFA) Grant-Fatherhood-Family-focused, Interconnected, Resilient, and Essential (Fatherhood FIRE),
