Legislator Eric Stewart offers the following:

WHEREAS, the UCHS was founded in 1859 in order to act as curator and collector of significant Hudson Valley artifacts, documents, and cultural items with the twofold goal of suitably housing these collections and educating the community on the important role that Ulster County has played in the history of our state and particularly in the founding of our nation; and

WHEREAS, through its headquarters at the Bevier House Museum, 2682 State Route 209, Kingston (Town of Marbletown), the UCHS has created a dynamic, architecturally compelling venue for the public to view its collections of documents and artifacts and serve as a home for its varied and on-going educational and cultural programming including, most recently, the history of baseball in Ulster County (including a game played in early 1900’s vintage garb) and a history of the Elverhoj Art Colony at Milton-on-Hudson; and 

 WHEREAS, through its on-site library, the UCHS affords researchers, historians and scholars the opportunity to study these documents and collections in an appropriate and professional setting; and

WHEREAS, the UCHS sees this Job Training and Mentorship Program as another means to serve the citizens of Ulster County and share the history of its many diverse communities including those groups often underrepresented in the past both in terms of exhibit/program subject matter of and the mentees receiving the training; and

 WHEREAS, the UCHS plans to use this job training program as a model to be replicated by other non-profits and County organizations; and

WHEREAS, the UCHS seeks to build upon its legacy and create a job training and mentorship in non-profit administration to provide an introduction to and entry-level skills in the development of communications, public programming and exhibitions, fiscal management, member services and volunteer programs in order further its goals and provide additional outreach and services to all residents of Ulster County; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the 2023 Ulster County Budget is hereby amended as follows for the purpose of providing funding to the Ulster County Historical Society:

RESOLVED, in furtherance of this Resolution, a contract shall be executed between the Ulster County Historical Society and the County of Ulster through the Department of Finance, Division of Recovery and Resilience for a job training and mentorship pilot program for 1 year,

and move its adoption.
