ULSTER COUNTY LEGISLATOR RONALD LAPP, JR. SPONSORING FREE COMMUNITY NARCAN TRAINING

Posted October 19, 2016

Kingston, NY – Ulster County Legislator Ronald Lapp, Jr. (R) is sponsoring a free community Narcan Training in cooperation with Dr. Raymond Harvey from the Institute for Family Health and Marie Shultis, Director of Awareness Inc., on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 6:30 at the Accord Fire House, 22 Main Street, Accord, NY.

Narcan (naloxone) is used for the emergency treatment of opioid overdose and has been credited with saving many lives when used by first responders.

“Everyone who attends this free training will be given a Narcan kit.” Lapp noted.  “With just common sense and an hour of your time, you will have the tools to save a life.”

Legislator Lapp, a former police officer, has seen the growing heroin and opioid crisis in Ulster County first hand. He supported the findings of the Ulster County Coalition Against Narcotics (UCAN) that recommended training to first responders and the public.   The UCAN panel held complex discussions with various experts around the region, attended National conferences and even testified in Albany.

“Narcan can prevent real heartbreak for family and friends of individuals battling addiction,” Lapp said. “I hope people will take advantage of this opportunity.  I know it can save lives.”

Anyone interested in attending one of these free training classes can contact Awareness, Inc. by email ucawarenessprogram[at]gmail[dot]com to register for the November 9th class.
