The Ulster County Legislature’s Health and Social Services Committee will be meeting at the Northeast Center for Traumatic Brain Injury located at 300 Grant Avenue in Lake Katrine tonight at 6:30 PM. The Committee will tour the largest brain injury treatment program in the world.  This one-of-a-kind program is designed to serve individuals with acquired brain injury. 

Legislator Craig Lopez, Committee Chairman said, “It’s important the Legislature tour this one of a kind healthcare facility to gain a better understanding of the needs of Ulster County’s health care system.  As the Northeast Center is the largest of its kind in the world, we definitely have a gem in our back yard.”

Legislator Carl Belfiglio, an Ulster County Coalition Against Narcotics committee member, invited the Coalition along for this tour to get a greater understanding of the circumstances and results of patients who have overdosed on opiates. “Together with the Public Health & Social Services Committee, the Coalition can experience first-hand the effects of addiction on individuals who survive a heroin overdose.  The knowledge gained can only help the Coalition and the Committee understand Ulster County’s needs better.”

Coalition Chairman Lou Klein stated, “As the Chairman of the Ulster County Coalition Against Narcotics (UCAN), I am pleased that we have the opportunity to observe this highly successful brain treatment program. We are extremely grateful that this program exists in Ulster County.”

The Tour will kick-off at 6:30 PM with the Public Health and Social Services Committee meeting immediately following.
