Ulster County Legislature Seeks Applicants to Serve on County Advisory Boards

KINSTON, NY—Legislative Chair Tracey Bartels announced today that the County Legislature is actively soliciting applications for board positions on the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency and Ulster County Industrial Development Agency.

Chair Bartels also encourages residents of Ulster County to take an active role in county government by volunteering to serve on one of the county’s many advisory boards, committees, councils, and commissions. Advisory volunteers provide guidance, insight, and recommendations on policy issues to county government. Advisory volunteers serve without compensation. Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency (UCRRA)

The UCRRA is a public benefit corporation formed for the purpose of developing, financing, and implementing a comprehensive county-wide materials management program. The Agency manages solid waste consistent with the policies outlined in the New York State Solid Waste Management Plan. 

The Agency is responsible for compliance with State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations regarding the management and long-term obligations of closed solid waste management facilities and currently operating facilities under its direct control. The Agency’s responsibilities also include education and public outreach efforts to encourage, support, and foster participation by the public for reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting portions of the existing solid waste stream. Two board seats are currently vacant. Selected applicants will serve a three-year term ending on December 31, 2024. All UCRRA members serve without compensation and continue to hold office until their successors are appointed and qualify. 

The deadline to apply is Monday, February 7, 2022, at Noon.

Ulster County Industrial Development Agency (UCIDA)

The mission of UCIDA is to advance the job opportunities, general prosperity, and long-term economic vitality of Ulster County residents by targeting tax incentives, bonding, and other assistance to foster the creation and attraction of new business and the retention and expansion of existing business in Ulster County. There are seven seats on the UCIDA board. Selected applicants will serve a two-year term ending on December 31, 2023. All UCIDA members serve without compensation and continue to hold office until their successors are appointed and qualify.

There are many volunteer opportunities for Ulster County residents to service on countywide advisory groups and play an essential role in Ulster County government. Whether created by the Ulster County Charter, County Legislature, or state or federal statutes, each advisory group was established to provide opportunities for citizens to participate in local government and the effective and efficient delivery of services. Advisory group members serve without compensation.
