Ulster County Legislature Honors Sheriff, Correctional and Peace Officers Across Ulster County

Kingston, NY – Legislator Eve Walter, Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement & Public Safety Committee, presented a proclamation to Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa at the May 5th meeting, signed by Legislative Chair David Donaldson, honoring Ulster County Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers.  

In the proclamation, Chairman Donaldson recognized the Sheriff’s department, including law enforcement and corrections officers, for performing “an essential public service under difficult circumstances, especially today with unprecedented challenges from increasing national unrest and the COVID pandemic.”

“Ulster County is fortunate to have a Sheriff and law enforcement professionals who take their responsibility to the community seriously, keeping us safe and respecting the rights and dignity of all our citizens,” said Donaldson.  

Committee Chair Walter, who also Chairs the Legislature’s Criminal Justice and Reform Task Force noted “The Sheriff’s department has been an integral part of the Task Force since its inception and has been fully committed to the vison that safety and equality go together.” 

Legislator Heidi Haynes, Deputy Chair of the Law Enforcement & Public Safety Committee added, “It is important to show respect and gratitude to our members of law enforcement for the outstanding work they do to protect our communities.” 

The proclamation honors “all those that have served, continue to serve and especially, those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty” and declared: 

May 2 – 8, 2021 as Correctional Officers Week

May 9 – 15, 2021 as Police Week

May 15, 2021 as Peace Officer Memorial Day
