Statement from Chair Peter Criswell on Passing of Former County Clerk Nina Postupack
(Kingston, NY) – Nina Postupack was an extraordinary public servant whose dedication to the people of Ulster County was unparalleled. What set her apart even further was her deep commitment to honoring the residents who came before us, and her passion for preserving and celebrating our shared history. It was one of my greatest honors to work alongside her to designate November 26th as Sojourner Truth Day in Ulster County, a tribute to both an iconic figure and to Nina’s belief in uplifting voices of the past.
Her dedication to the Lenape people and her role in ensuring the renewal of the peace treaty between them and our county will forever stand as one of her lasting legacies.
Nina served her community; she embraced all of us, transcending politics to build bridges where others might see divides.
One of her many remarkable contributions was her willingness to work with the Legislature in establishing the domestic partner registry. Through that, she ensured that everyone could receive equal benefits for their loved ones, recognizing the strength and legitimacy of all partnerships.
Nina set a standard of service and compassion that we all should strive toward. My heart is with her family and the countless friends whose lives she touched.
