While the decision of the New York State Gaming Facility Location Board has concluded the Nevele Resort Casino & Spa application was not successful, the Ulster County Legislature maintains its support of building an economic stimulus in the southern part of Ulster County.

“Wawarsing stood at the ready to bring the Nevele back as an economic engine which would have benefitted the entire region,” commented Ulster County Legislator Craig Lopez.  “Even though New York State has turned a blind eye to Wawarsing, I will work everyday to make sure the County does not forget about Wawarsing.”

Legislator TJ Briggs stated on hearing the Board’s decision, “Although there will be no casino, Wawarsing still needs economic development.”  As a Legislative representative to the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency (IDA), Legislator Briggs noted, “Partnering with IDA member Mary Sheeley, we will turn every stone to bring  all available economic development attention to Wawarsing.”
