Referred to: The Public Works and Capital Projects Committee (Chairman Fabiano and
Legislators Allen, Greene, Loughran and Roberts)
Chairman of the Public Works and Capital Projects Committee, Dean J. Fabiano, and
Deputy Chairman Peter M. Loughran offer the following:
WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted by the County Executive; and
WHEREAS, County Bridge No. 74 over the Esopus Creek, is located in the
Town of Hurley and is a portion of County Route 29A; and
WHEREAS, it is proposed that the aforementioned bridge be named, “The
Levon Helm Memorial Bridge”; and
WHEREAS, Levon Helm was a resident as well as a tireless ambassador of
Ulster County; and
WHEREAS, Levon Helm was a world-renowned, award winning musician
who contributed immensely to Ulster County’s musical legacy by holding concerts
such as his “Midnight Ramble;” and
WHEREAS, Levon Helm died in 2012 at the age of 71 years, after a
courageous battle against illness; and
WHEREAS, open spaces and farmland were particularly important to, and
appreciated by Levon Helm, and County Bridge No. 74 as well as County Route 29A
is set amidst some of Ulster County’s most picturesque farmland and is a place
Levon Helm would frequently visit; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that Levon Helm be honored by dedicating and naming the
County Route XX Bridge over the Esopus Creek as The Levon Helm Memorial
Bridge,
and moves its adoption.
