Jonathan is currently the youngest Democratic Majority Leader in the history of the Legislature.

Born and raised in Woodstock, he is proud to be building his life in the community he knows and cares so much about. His professional life has been committed to fighting for progressive values and working families. Prior to being elected to the Legislature, he served as an appointed member of the Woodstock Environmental Commission and is employed as the Deputy Press Secretary for the New York State Senate Democrats. Previously, he worked as the Communication Director for State Senator Terry Gipson and as a staff member for President Obama’s re-election campaign in the all-important state of Virginia.

Jonathan is a graduate of Onteora High School and Manhattanville College, where he received a BA in Communication. He hopes that his deep roots in the community and his professional experience will allow him to bring new energy, new ideas and long-term solutions to county government and the community.

As a Legislator, Jonathan’s goals are

  • Ulster County Jobs: He is committed to creating greater job and career opportunities for all Ulster County residents, as well working towards making Ulster County more affordable for families, recent graduates and seniors. “We need to make it possible to retain our population – from graduation into retirement.”
  • Smart Investments: “A thriving arts community is crucial to our local economy. I support smart investments on the county level that will assist our local arts and tourism programs as well as other small businesses.”
  • Vital Support Services: He is committed to providing women and minority owned businesses with greater access to the tools they need to succeed. He is also committed to maintaining and expanding important county services that not only help people, but enhance the community as well, including: supporting victims of domestic violence, combating the heroin and opiate epidemic, working to aid veterans and improving access to public transportation.
  • Our Environment: As a former member of the Woodstock Environmental Commission and avid fisherman, he is dedicated to preserving the environment and to building a sustainable Ulster County. “We cannot afford to apply band-aid solutions to today’s many environmental challenges. Nor can we bend to the whims of corporations that would exploit our precious natural resources.”
