Chairwoman of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Gina Hansut, and Deputy Chair Chris Hewitt offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the Ulster County Sheriff; and

 

 WHEREAS, Ulster County has been awarded funding in the amount of $200,000.00 from the   Department of Justice, Office of Community Policing Services for the Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) Implementation Projects for Fiscal Years (FY) 2024-2026; and

 

WHEREAS, such funding will be used to fund the salary and benefits of a Caseworker position in the ORACLE division to support the work of the Wellness Unit; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute an agreement (15JCOPS-24-GG-01399-LEMH) and any amendments thereto, in the amount of $200,000.00 with the Department of Justice in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Legislature, or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, that if funding for this program and related positions is eliminated, the Budget Director shall be notified by the Sherriff’s Department immediately upon discovery, with written notification of such sent to the Clerk of the Legislature, and Ulster County Sheriff or designee shall attend the next regular meeting of the Ways and Means Committee to assist the Committee in review and evaluation for determination of alternate funding sources for any positions created as a result of receiving this funding; and, be it further

 

RESOLVED, if no new funding source can be identified to fund any newly created positions, a list of positions will be provided by the Sherriff’s Department to the Budget Director and the Ways and Means Committee that shall sunset,

 

           

 

 

and moves its adoption.
