Chair of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Eve Walter, and Deputy Chair Gina Hansut offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Public Defender; and

 

WHEREAS, the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services (NYS OILS) has selected Ulster County for participation in the Second Upstate Family Defense (Child Welfare) Quality Improvement & Caseload Reduction with the provision of $685,431.00 over three years; and

 

WHEREAS, the purpose of the Second Upstate Family Defense (Child Welfare) Quality Improvement & Caseload Reduction grant initiative is to support providers of representation of family court defense in upstate New York, and improve the quality of representation for parents involved in Article 10 child welfare matters; and

 

WHEREAS, the Public Defender has requested that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature be authorized to enter into an agreement with the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services for the purpose of Ulster County’s participation in the Second Upstate Family Defense (Child Welfare) Quality Improvement & Caseload Reduction, Contract No: C2NDUFD51, for the period 01/01/2023 through 12/31/2025; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to enter into an agreement, and any amendments thereto, with the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services for the purpose of Ulster County’s participation in the Second Upstate Family Defense (Child Welfare) Quality Improvement & Caseload Reduction, Contract No: C2NDUFD51, for the period 01/01/2023 through 12/31/2025, in the form as filed with the Clerk of the Ulster County Legislature or as modified with the approval of the County Attorney,     

 

and move its adoption.
