Chair of the Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee, Eve Walter, and Deputy Chair Gina Hansut offer the following:

 

WHEREAS, this resolution has been submitted at the request of the County Executive on behalf of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office; and

 

WHEREAS, this resolution is requesting authorization to apply for the Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance FY 23 Connect and Protect: Law Enforcement Behavioral Health Response Program Grant, opportunity number O-BJA-2023-171520; and

 

WHEREAS, the Connect and Protect Grant’s mission is to support law enforcement-behavioral health cross-system collaboration to improve public health and safety as well as responses to and outcomes for individuals with mental health disordered (MHDs) or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders (MHSUDs); and

 

WHEREAS, the Connect and Protect Grant will further the goals and objectives of the COSSAP Grant currently in use with the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office Oracle Team; and

 

WHEREAS, the Connect and Protect Grant can add funding in the maximum amount of $550,000.00 if awarded with a 20% cash match; and

 

WHEREAS, it is now necessary to apply for this grant by April 24, 2023, or risk losing this opportunity; now, therefore be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Chair of the Ulster County Legislature is hereby authorized to execute the application for the Department of Justice BJA FY 2023 Connect and Protect: Law Enforcement Behavioral Health Response Program Grant,

and move its adoption.
